SPOnG’s most-wanted DS game of, like, for ever, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, is set to get a release in the US on 1st October. No UK or European release date has yet been confirmed.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is entirely touch-screen controlled – so you can talk to non-playing characters; swordfight, navigate ships, throw boomerangs and lots more, all via the touchscreen and stylus. It also features a cutesy Wind Waker aesthetic and a Wi-Fi multiplayer battle mode option.

"Since 1987 The Legend of Zelda franchise has sold more than 52 million units worldwide," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass stays true to the richness of the console Zelda franchise while introducing new controls that allow veterans and first-time gamers to become fully immersed in the adventure."

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass involves legendary hero Link and Tetra, the leader of a band of pirates, as they discover a ghost ship in dense fog. Link falls into the ocean when Tetra gets into trouble, and he wakes up alone on the shore of a mysterious island. Throughout the game, Link collects sand for his Phantom Hourglass, which allows him to explore deeper and deeper into a time-limited dungeon in his quest to find Tetra.

Watch out for more on The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass from E3 next week.

I still find it strange that many didn't enjoy Wind Waker, and yet here again is this same anime style Link in what looks like a cracking game, and everyone is now up for it.

I am one of those who is not a fan of Wind Waker. Don't get me wrong, it's great up until the constant sailing bit at the end. It was just way too short, with not enough dungeons. This was like most of Nintendo's output on the gamecube; almost great but in the end just rather short and flawed.

As for TP; I was loving it until I got to the Sky dungeon and then for some reason I stopped playing it. I just didn't feel like it. Maybe it was because it stopped feeling like a zelda game. I dunno. Looking forward to phantom hourglass though.
