Contra 4 On Nintendo DS This Year
Konami has just announced the development of an all-new 2D scrolling Contra title due to be released on Nintendo DS later this year.

Contra 4 (working title) for the Nintendo DS, is being developed by Wayforward Technologies and is (finally!) a true sequel to 15-year-old classic Contra III: Alien Wars.

Contra 4 takes place two years after the events of Contra III (which took place two years after Super Contra) with protagonists Bill Rizer and Lance Bean facing off against new enemy the Black Viper. Joined by the strangely-named mercenaries, Mad Dog and Scorpion.

“Refining the 2D side-scrolling genre the series established 20 years ago, Contra 4 delivers pure action at a fever pitch as players jump, shoot, and dodge oncoming hazards. Utilizing a new dual screen presentation, the action spans both screens of the Nintendo DS, giving players the opportunity to battle across expansive environments in which death can come from any direction,” Konami informs us.

The use of DS’s dual screen allows for massive boss battles as players try to seek and destroy the weak points of sky-high enemies. Contra 4 also introduces a grappling hook accessory that lets players grab onto elements of the environment directly above them, allowing for new combat situations and dramatic set pieces.

Superb news for DS owners everywhere. More on Contra 4 as we get it in the coming weeks.

IThat's cool. I just wish someone would pick up Sin and Punishment and give it an overhaul for DS too. That I feel is the kind of direction Contra should be going in, either that or a mix of 2d-3d.

yeah, and to be honest i preferred the robots :(

i wish theyd put a probotector option in all the european contra games as an easter egg, because i grew up with those robots man. billy bicep and rambo mclane are just empty shells to me

I think the only reason we got those robots, was most likely because their original characters appearance, is similar to a certain former actor turned U.S mayor. During the 80's and the NES-SNES era, I'm sure Konami would have been wary about stepping on muscle bound toes, hence the dodge Probotector name.

When this new game gets to DS now, it'll remain with its original Contra name everywhere, like the previous PS1 or 2 effort.

then why release it in america, where the dude lives? i think the actual reason we got the robots (the original reason we did, anyway) was because of some european censoring laws or something similar. kinda like turok in germany

oh absolutely, but they should at least offer us probotector fans a reacharound i feel, in the form of at least a main character sprite swap (to robots, natch) option/cheat, i mean that wouldnt be asking much at all now would it. maybe if it was a system option it could change the title screen too!

come on konami, show some respect

Yeah, I said I think, check wikipedia for the truth.

Sometimes Konami include cheats for hidden characters, seek and you might find.
