Nintendo guru Shigeru Miyamoto wants to set his sister up with Link from The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, it seems.

Speaking in a recent interview, Miyamoto, the game's general producer, said, “Finally, some words to my sister (laughs). Link is cute, really; particularly this Link with cat eyes.” Not only does SPOnG find the concept of trying to set up one's sister with a pretend elfin chap a bit weird, the hint of bestiality is downright creepy.

In a cuddly word to Link lovers everywhere, Miyamoto said,

“First, a message to the Zelda fans. I think the Zelda series has evolved throughout the years. This game is no exception. We've changed the gameplay mechanics and it makes the game fresh and fun. We've also introduced the phantom hourglass system, and I'd like you to give it a try. Furthermore, the staff has done some research on Zelda to decide whether something fits in the game, so this game has many elements with the Zelda essence.”

If nothing else, it's a world record count for the 'Z' word on one short paragraph.

Miyamoto seems to be gunning at a wider demographic than just girl gamers (and hardcore lads) on board, as he says, “For those who - like little kids - haven't played a Zelda game, this game's very interactive. I think once you finish it you'll remember it as a comic book.”

SPOnG reckons that you'd have to have some worryingly crossed neurons to remember any game as a comic, but judging on the art and screens released so far Nintendo seems to be heading in the right direction for hitting a more mass market audience with Phantom Hourglass.

You can find more Phantom Hourglass news and assets on SPOnG's dedicated game page.
