SKATE Boasts Greatest Videogame Soundtrack Ever. Fact.

The White Stripes, The Sex Pistols, Bowie, Nirvana, N.W.A. and more

We were already pretty pumped about EA’s forthcoming SKATE. Now that we have seen the just-released list of artists providing music for the game, including David Bowie, Nirvana, N.W.A., The Sex Pistols and The White Stripes, we can confidently declare that it boasts the greatest videogame soundtrack off all time.

From the all-too-brief hands on sessions with the game we have already had, we are leaning towards pre-reviewingly calling SKATE a 'more than adequately enjoyable' videogaming experience. Of course, you'll have to wait for the review before we actually put the marks on the table.

Here are the 60 tunes that you will most probably have going round and round and round and round in your head as you play SKATE when it releases later this year.

"The soundtrack for SKATE is a direct reflection of true outlaw skateboard culture," said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing at EA. "It's a throwback to the days of underground skateboard videos when skaters created their own soundtracks that raided every genre of music."

However, according to our skateboarding expert (he bought his first board in 1976, a G&S Bowlrider with Fulltracks and square-edge green Krypts), "There has never been a culture of skateboarding music, because real skaters are individuals who listen to what they like." So, there you have it.

SKATE is scheduled for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.

Meh. It's a mish-mash. About 50% killer, 50% filler. I mean, Band of Horses!?

I've been to a million parks, and jams and never heard any skater playing Rick James,

Who the f**k are Escalera? The player on their website didn't work with my set-up (Camino on Mac) even though it's in cross-platform Flash... so I may never know. They look cool though.

Renee Renee. Children of Bodom! FFS!

And nothing by the Faction!

Skaters always have been individuals, into whatever music they are into. In the early days, it was "Classic" rock, Zep, Nugent, Sabbath, Skynyrd. Later, it's been anything from straight edge to acid house, electro to death metal. The only thing that unites skaters is skating. So putting together a soundtrack that pleases half of us half of the time is a feat. This just about manages it.

Ramones, The White Stripes, Booker T & The MG's and Nirvana will make this a great soundtrack, but all the time I'll be wishing they included some Doors (like THUG2 and THAW).
