Konami has just announced the launch of a dedicated online league for
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops on the PSP.
The league will offer
Metal Gear Solid fans the opportunity to compete against other players in both official tournaments and contests set up by gamers themselves. It'll come in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian. Three official competitions are currently planned to take place between June and October.
Sound familiar? It should. Konami's emulating the
service set up for
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence on the PS2.
Both leagues are run by the drably-named Game-Services, which organises web-based activities focused on what it calls “Electronic Sports.” Call SPOnG traditionalist, but we always thought that sports ought to involve at least the
possibility of a kick in the nuts and a bloody nose.
Game-Services isn't the only company taking an interest in “Electronic Sports” these days. Yesterday SPOnG caught up with the team behind Tournament.com, a site that runs competitions promising cash prizes with Valve. You can read all about it
