Phantasy Star fans now enjoy level 200

Sonic Team, Sega’s programming force behind Phantasy Star Online, has confirmed the existence of the heavily rumoured expansion add-on and gone into great detail regarding its contents.

The new disc will feature several new game modes, all of which were suggested by players of the online game.

There will be two entirely new areas in the Phantasy Star world. Sick of walking around the mines and forest? Sonic Team has created two completely new environments for your questing pleasure, The Shrine and The Spaceship.

The new and enhanced battle engine will allow for up to four players to battle simultaneously. The are new difficulty settings and players will now be able to get to level 200, twice as powerful than was possible before. Along with this, Sega has thrown in myriad new weapons, skins, outfits, and Mags. Some of the Mags take on the form of Sega’s old consoles, so you can now run around with a Master System as your digital buddy.

Some of the new game modes strike us as being equally brilliant and bizarre. There will be a soccer tournament available, which can see up to twelve players battle it out on the turf.

All the bugs, such as item storage problems will be repaired. Phantasy Star Online Version 2 (tentative title) comes out in Japan on May 17 this year. There has been no word yet of a European release date, but Sega has confirmed that the new disc will be released in all regions.
