Jaffe's Patience Tested On Cars Name Change

It was a bit of a stretch....

Posted by Staff
In a recent interview God of War II executive producer and Calling All Cars driving force, the ever interesting David Jaffe has commented on the Cars name change from it's original Criminal Crackdown moniker.

"Legal came back and said that we couldn’t use Crackdown. They never said this, but the assumption was because Microsoft has this game Crackdown... For me, that was a little bit of a stretch – Criminal Crackdown/Crackdown, people ought to be able to tell the difference."

We've got to agree with David on this one - in our experience legal can get a little bit paranoid at times. Jaffe also commented on where he's going to be putting his energies in terms of new content - and it's not going to be in boxed games. For David, it's all about the downloads.

"That’s (downloadable games) all you’re going to see of me in the future..."
was his pointed comment.

I got to say, if Crackdown was in any way unrelated to fighting criminals and crime, I think this would be stupid legal b******s. However, thats exactly what Crackdown is about. So to call a game Criminal Crackdown, it does have too many similarities. It would be like calling a new FPS 'Halo Gun'...
