Latest PlayStation 3 Dark Sector Screens & Info

Eastern European black-ops shooty fun

Posted by Staff
While PS3 stumbles along in terms of sales (being outsold by the GBA in the U.S. for example) it's good to know that developers are still developing away for it. And here's the proof with new screens for the forthcoming 'black ops' outing from Unreal Tournament developer, Digital Extremes.

The game sees players, "thrust into the role of Hayden Tenno, an elite black-ops agent sent on a dangerous assassination mission into Lasria – an Eastern European city on the brink of ruin that hides a deadly Cold War secret. Attacked by an unknown enemy, he awakens to find part of his body altered by an infection that has granted him inhuman abilities. Now, Hayden must learn to evolve along with his powers, to survive and to become a hero."

Yup, a super-human, black-ops agent behind what was the Iron Curtain learning to evolve and find the hero in himself, sort of a game which should be out for PS3 - and Xbox 360 - in September this year.

*yawn*...you know, I was actually really interested in this game before it lost its awesome futuristic, ultra-stylized visuals. Now it just looks so...generic. Blah. I'm not alone either, as I believe it was either Gamepro or EGM that had a recent poll last issue showing overwhelmingly the same sentiments being expressed...

Yeah, the big thing, according to the makers, is now a disc you can throw that becomes imbued with whatever element it passes through, or comes into contact with. The gameplay demo they've shown is average, at best, with the AI possibly being a saving aspect (if the guy giving the demo wasn't speaking from the rear) and imbuing things has been seen at least as far back as LoK: Soul Reaver on PS1. And, I'm reminded of Area 51, for the hybrid bit. Is there anything original, here? (This seems cut-and-paste, stitch-up, present, is the point I'm trying to convey.) From what I've seen, it looks distinctly like the publisher wouldn't go with the original game idea, but had a name that people knew, and put an existing concept in to recoup lost expenses. This ranks amongst the games I am least most anticipating.
