UK’s First Dedicated eSports Channel Launches

Of course you do.
So you might want to check out XLEAGUE.TV, billed as the first British TV channel dedicated to eSports and competitive gaming, which launches on Sky channel 291 today. That’s right. NOW.
Forget for a few minutes that XLEAGUE.TV is being bankrolled by tabloid baron, Richard ‘Dirty Dick’ Desmond, and give it a quick look in.
Whatever your thoughts about Desmond's newspaper empire, including The Daily Star and The Daily Express, the fact that he is funding this venture gives you some idea of how media barons are taking competitive gaming seriously as a mainstream sport.
Opinion in the SPOnG office is currently evenly divided between the “it’s a disastrous idea, why would people watch people playing games on TV” camp and the “it actually just might work” camp.
The channel will feature both live and recorded matches with commentary and analysis, as well as leagues and tournament play. There will also be a news, reviews and magazine shows.
XLEAGUE’s Paul Vale told SPOnG earlier today, “The Match is the anchor that holds the XLEAGUE.TV television show and website together. Players compete in tournaments and leagues via our website, with the finalists invited into our XLEAGUE.TV television studios. The Match pits gamer against gamer, with in-depth analysis and commentary by leading industry professionals.”
Vale adds, “This means that not only do top gamers earn the chance to win prizes, but they also earn the opportunity to play infront of a nation via our XLEAGUE.TV television channel. Gamers can also watch The Match via our website's 'TV Channel' section - so from registering for a competition to winning the tournament, XLEAGUE.TV is there every step of the way.”

Big surprise this one. Checked the channel out and it seems alright. Better than having nothing at all that's for sure. If its up to date that should be good too.
I still find it amazing that while the likes of Gamer TV etc have fallen down and disappeared from screens, the likes of Cybernet can still be found to watch. Nice to have an alternative though.
I don't know, perhaps Spong should take a closer look at this channel and give a verdict. Maybe an interview with XLeague or something.

Watched it last night and thought it was pretty good. It is still a bit rough with presenters missing links to each other, but it's early days and will take time to streamline and mature. They do however need to get rid of the female presenter who is in the "game arena" she does not have it I'm afraid. Replace her with Kate Heavenor from the now dead Rapture and we have a winner.
All in all, better than suffering the property programs my wife watches !
