The rumoured-but-still-unconfirmed
Guitar Hero '80s Edition for the PS2 may be hitting the US as soon as this summer according to some etailers.
On
Gamespot the game is dated for June 4th, while Gamefly and Amazon.ca are showing a release date of July 31st.
We contacted Activision, which publishes the game in the UK, and were told, “we're not able to confirm anything at this time.”
However, speaking about
'80s Edition rumours in a recent interview Kai Huang, the inventor of the
Guitar Hero series, said, “We haven't made any announcements yet on which specific genres of music we will be focusing on, but we definitely are looking at different genres.”
SPOnG translation: “We'd have to be insane not to do an
'80s Edition, but I'm not allowed to talk about it.”
It seems inevitable that
'80s Edition is coming. As for the dates, it seems highly unlikely that Red Octane will be releasing a game of
Guitar Hero's stature in a month's time when no official announcement has been made. The US just might get it by July 31st, however.
SPOnG, for one, has its fingers crossed that we'll be able to rock out to
High Priest Of Love by Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction soon.
Even if the
'80s Edition never materialises, however, SPOnG will console itself with news of the
juicy new features we'll be seeing on Guitar Hero III for the Wii.You can find more about the latest iteration of guitar heroism on SPOnG's
Guitar Hero II page.Okay, which 1980s' tunes do you want to 'rawk out' to? Tell us in the Forum below.
