Japanese Chart: Itsa Me! Mario!

Super Paper Mario tears up the chart

Oh, to live in Japan. It’s a little dream we have now and then, usually when a major videogame releases that we just know we’ll not get to enjoy over in the old world for months. And that’s if we’re lucky.

This time around, our little fantasy was inspired by the news that Nintendo’s Super Paper Mario (Wii) has unsurprisingly shot straight up to number one in the Japanese all formats chart, according to local gaming 'bible' Famitsu.

Super Paper Mario sold a healthy 156,055 copies in its first week, here’s the latest Top Ten, direct from Famitsu:

1. Super Paper Mario (Wii) – Nintendo
2. Fate / Stay Night [Realta Nua] (PS2) – Kadokawa Shoten
+3. Persona 3: Fes (PS2) - Atlus4.
+3. Gyakuten Saiban 4 (DS) – Capcom
5. Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition (PSP) – Square Enix
6. Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March Of The Minis (DS) – Nintendo
7. Wii Sports (Wii) – Nintendo
8. Nodame Cantabile (DS) – Namco Bandai
9. Yoshi’s Island (DS) – Nintendo
10. Wii Play (Wii) – Nintendo

While there are twenty Nintendo titles in the top thirty this week - there are, interestingly, no PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 titles.

Super Paper Mario releases in the UK later this year, sometime before October. We'll be back like a shot with the official release date as soon as Nintendo UK stops being all coy about it.
