Transformers - Latest On Videogames In Disguise
One thing SPOnG is looking forward to in July, other than the all-new slimmed down E3 in Santa Monica, is the release of the new live action, Michael Bay-directed Transformers movie from DreamWorks and Paramount and, courtesy of Activision, the obligatory tie-in game-of-the-movie-of-the-1980s-toys.

Activision has just unveiled the new Transformers videogame website, which has piqued our interest again today.

"We are thrilled to work with Activision to bring the widely popular Transformers brand to the world of digital entertainment and introduce millions of consumers to our best-known Transformer and biggest hero of all time - Optimus Prime," said Jane Ritson-Parsons, president of the Hasbro Properties Group (HPG).

The bog-standard corporo-quote continues, "As the leading developer of video games, Activision shares our passion and excitement for the Transformers story line. We know this world-class and creative team will bring Transformers to life in powerful and exciting ways as we immerse a broad audience in this pop-culture phenomenon."

You mean the very-loosely-pillaged-childhood-favourite-of-the-1980s-that-was-too-close-to-a-rip-off-idea-and-so-was-strongly-affiliated-with-the-license-so-as-to-destroy-childhood-memories-everywhere movie from Michael Bay.

This is as much the transformers as Independence Day is H.G Wells' War of the Worlds. Sure it has strong similarities but at least Independence Day didn't walk on H.G. Wells grave by claiming it was War of the Worlds. Didn't you hear? Michael Bay is the new Uwe Boll.

All I can say to that, is wait and see the film, and give Bay & Spielberg a chance to prove you wrong. I'm gonna wait and see what its like before damning it. Remember, Transformers is/was an anime series, anime is very fantastic in what it can do, somethings and qualities would be very hard to do live action film or series.

So changes have been made to it, so what! Isn't that what The Transformers are all about, change, adaptability to a situation and more than meets the eye? I'm sure they have this in mind, which is also why it should work if done right.

As for this new game, we'll see soon. The last Transformers game on PS2 was pretty good considering.
