Wii Blaster - The Nintendo Gun Is On The Way

So says GameStop

The Wii Blaster may be coming soon. GameStop over in the US is now listing the peripheral with a due date of May 1st and a price of $19.99 (£10.10).

Of course, it's always possible that the release date is a place-holder. However, May 1st is quite an immediate date. The listing at least seems to indicate that the Blaster isn't too far away.

SPOnG checked in with Nintendo to see if it was prepared to confirm the release and was met with "pure rumour and speculation - no official announcements have been made."

The Blaster is expected to take the form of a casing for the Wii Remote and, from the looks of early prototypes, the Nunchuck.

With the recent announcement of Resident Evil 4 and Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii the blaster certainly seems about due. SPOnG found that the Wii Remote/Nunchuck combo works well for the first person shooter in Call of Duty 3, but the Blaster would surely be a nice addition to cement the Wii as a great FPS platform.

Excellent. Hope they build in some sort of calibration screen to truly mimic a light gun.

A game with movement handled entirely with the nunchuck analog stick and shooting with the light gun would be awesome. Maybe hold down one of the nunchuck buttons to strafe?

From what I've seen the prototype looks nothing more than a shelf bracket. A bit cheeky to charge £10 for. Maybe a £5? For some reason I'm thinking now of the free joystick given away on an old games magazine...it was a little bit of plastic you'd stick ontop of the SNES pad's D-pad, and it was crap, and snapped or fell off after a few games.
Well...it was a freebie.

Still...the blaster...want an extra gun? Then buy a thumbstick, a wii-mote, a blaster shell, and stick 'em all together. =P DIY Gaming...

it will be just as accurate as the wii remote is... very and not at all, all at once.

There will still be a reticule.

The sensor on the remote only sees IR, so it can only see the bar and move in relation to it. Unless of course it is able to see the tv some how and they haven't told us, but i doubt it.

Good job on finding the Wii blaster on GameSpot, and like most gamers, we're hoping that the May 1 release is true. We made an article on the very same topic which can be found here. Once again, great job guys, keep up the good work.

I think moving around just by waving the gun around would be quite good.

Putting all these pieces together sounds a bit complex just to be able to hold it like a gun, though...
