UPDATE - NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams - Due Christmas
Sega Japan has finally made its first ‘official’ announcement on NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. This comes after building NiGHTS hype and fanboy over-excitement that has emerged following a number of western magazine teases about the title over the last week.

(UPDATE: Official Sega of America website now up at Sega.com).

According to Japan’s Famitsu, Sonic Team USA will have NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams ready for a Wii release this winter. We can only hope and pray that Sega Europe is planning to have the game ready for a Christmas release over here.

SPOnG will be bringing you this news in the VERY near future. Stay tuned.

The new Famitsu piece focuses the Wii Remote functionality of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, which enables players to glide, drift, ascend, and loop-the-loop.

Takashi Izuka of Sonic Team USA is Producer of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, telling Famitsu:

"In 1996, we created the NiGHTS character to achieve a concept of 'being refreshed from being able to fly in the sky'. 11 years later, at last, we have broken our silence. NiGHTS will now fly in a new dream world: new stages, new story, and on the new Wii platform. Please look forward to NiGHTS and friends exploring this brand new adventure."

Sega plan to include a two-player mode with online functionality, although exactly how that is going to work is still to be detailed. Here's the full Sega press release just in:

Takashi Iizuka? Uh-oh, spaghetti-os.

I can't wait to see NiGHTS with a 9mm popping caps in Nightmaren's multi-coloured asses. In the new Dream Ghetto stage.

Will NiGHTS be a hero or villain? You decide.

Glad to see this wasn't an April Fools joke. I read an interview translated from japanese with Takashi saying more about Nights, that's when I figured its real.

Should be a nice addition to the Wii library. Nights online too...now I'm really curious.
