Assassins Creed Gets Novelised

Can we call it a franchise now?

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed is set to get its very own series of novels. They'll be published by Pocket books, a mass-market paperback division of Simon & Schuster.

The first novel, written by bestselling author Steven Barnes (The Legacy of Heorot and The Cestus Deception), will be titled Assassin's Creed Book One: The Invisible Imam.

"The Assassin's Creed books, which begin by layering elements that prequel the game, will only expand upon this adventure to an eager audience of gamers and thrill seekers," said Tony Key, vice president of marketing at Ubisoft.

It wouldn't be a killer franchise if it wasn't getting a spin-off, would it? Of course, in this case it's not even a franchise yet. The book series will not be Assassin's Creed's sole spin-off. It joins an animated short from Ubisoft's recently announced animation studio in Montreal.

SPOnG has to wonder, however, if the spoilers that already spilled from the lips of actress Kristen Bell will make this a non-starter.
