Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison revealed all on the PS3 downloadable
Super Rub'a'Dub at the D.I.C.E. summit in Las Vegas this week, as well as revealing more details on
SingStar PS3,
LocoRoco 2 and the ‘evolving’ PlayStation Network.
Super Rub'a'Dub – due to hit the PS3’s online store in a matter of weeks - is a fully playable, entirely motion-sensing controlled game based on the infamous rubber duck tech demo which Harrison used to demonstrate the PlayStation 3 way back at E3 in 2005 – aaah, those halcyon LA days when booth babes ran free and wild!
Harrison also revealed that a
LocoRoco sequel is in the works, which he tantalisingly revealed he had been playing on the way over.
Sing Star on PS3 is due sometime this spring with tunes downloadable from an online store, plus other features such as the ability to upload videos of yourself warbling away. Sony has clearly taken note of the millions of home-video uploading YouTube fans and wannabe popstars on MySpace out there... Can anybody say 'online Pop Idol'?
Finally, Harrison assured D.I.C.E. attendees that the PlayStation Network was "evolving” and dismissed any suggestions that PS3 online could not compete with Xbox Live due to being free, noting that, "While it may be free to the consumer, we know there are revenue streams for us to earn in other ways. We have a number of things that we'll announce shortly that will add clarity to that statement."
No doubt the plan is to reveal what those ‘things’ are at the the Games Developers Conference in San Francisco early next month, where SPOnG will be in attendance to bring you many more detailed announcements from Sony and their ‘friendly rivals’ over at Nintendo and Microsoft. Not to mention the global announcement of…. Wait for it…
N-Gage 2!! Woohoo!
