HMV recently sent out an email to customers offering a £625 PS3/PSP bundle, claiming, "We've been working with
Sony to offer up to 5,000 customers an incredible deal when [they] buy the new Sony 4GB PSP… Anyone who takes advantage of this offer will get priority over other HMV.co.uk customers for the Playstation 3."
So, basically you were being offered the guarantee of a PS3 at launch, providing you were also willing to shell out for a 4GB PSP and two PSP games for a whopping total of £674.99.
Other retailers and consumers were, rightfully, up in arms about the offer and HMV has since rescinded, with customers of the deal no longer being prioritised at launch.
The company has issued a statement today which simply reads, “Now that we've been able to confirm our level of PS3 stock with Sony, we're in a position to revise our original online offer.”
The statement continues, “We will therefore be writing imminently to all the customers who have indicated that they wish to make the dual purchase to advise them that they can now pre-order the PS3 console by itself, if they prefer.”
SPOnG will be keeping our beady eyes on HMV and all other major retailer’s plans for the PS3 launch next month. And let us know in the forum if you happen to see any more outrageous PS3 bundle deals cropping up at your local chain or indie store.
