It's emerged that 2K's upcoming watery shooter
Bioshock will not feature a multi-player mode. The news comes courtesy of the game's just-launched community site.
The new site comes stocked with the usual host of features you'd expect, most of which are already available on the game's official site. What
is of particular interest is a Q&A on which an (unnamed) developer from Irrational answers gamers' queries. It's from here that news of
Bioshock's lack of a multi-player option comes. The post reads:
"There will be no multiplayer (hold on before you complain!!!!) but for a very specific reason. BioShock features a compelling storyline that revolves around the experiences of one man as he enters the decaying world of Rapture. Having a multiplayer component would have compromised the story we were trying to tell so we made the decision to keep this game as a single player experience. There will be an online component, however, where new content can be downloaded."
Also from the Q&A come various other titbits. No playable demo is planned, for one. There will also be no special edition box set for the game. Speaking about the development team's lessons learned from
Deus Ex: Invisible War, the developer stated:
"Many development teams have learned important lessons from previous attempts to bring PC games to the console, though Deus Ex 2 is an infamous example. One of the main things we are doing differently is that we are leading our development efforts with the 360. Therefore all decisions on HUD and gameplay situations are made on the 360 and brought over to the PC to avoid the situations you are thinking about."
