And for PS2 - even if it should be 'Medal Of Honour'...bah!

Medal Of Honor: Vanguard For Wii
So, we've now got over the post traumatic shock that was MOH Airborne not appearing on Wii. Good, because EA is now stating that MOH: Vanguard will be released on Wii and PS2 in March 2007 - just in time for.. erm... the PS3 launch in PAL territories. The game has been developed by EA Los Angeles (EALA).

Here's what EA says,
"Step into the boots of Frank Keegan, Corporal of the 82nd Airborne Division and engage in battles throughout Europe. From Operation Husky on the shores of Sicily to Operation Varsity inside Nazi Germany, you’ll fight behind enemy lines in the epic WWII battles that turned America’s first paratroopers into heroes of WWII. Featuring spectacular graphics adding to epic combat intensity, Medal of Honor Vanguard makes you the driving force in the struggle to liberate Europe. As the first game in the Medal of Honor series to be released on the Nintendo Wii platform, players can expect Medal of Honor Vanguard to take full advantage of Wii’s one-of-a-kind controllers."

So there you have it...

our medal, our spelling...like it or lump it...

This was the series that sold me on Console First Person Shooters, or more precisely FPS's played on a television, with console controllers way back on the original PS. The endless hours spent play two-player splitscreen, while thoroughly enjoyable, also whetted my appetite for more. The broken promise of multi-player MoH goodness via an Xbox release of Allied Assault, coupled with the year-long wait for the PS2 retread that was Frontline (which looked especially pale in comparision to its PC bug brother), followed by the subpar in almost all aspects Rising Sun*, kinda soured me on the series.

European Assault, while enjoyable, was a step away from more realism, and in sharp contrast to MoH:AA and other MoH PC titles.

Was Airborne any good?

*My favorite nitpick of Rising Sun was the inclusion, as an unlockable, of a documentary on the Browning Automatic Rifle and its use in the war, including wonderful anecdotes from veterans of the Pacific campaigns. This bugged the hell out of me, since all light machineguns/assault rifles had been completely excluded from the game with the exception of a single model (99?) used by the Imperial Army of Japan. I will say that the beginning was kinda cool, if a bit overdone, and I believe the sound was excellent if my fuzzy memories of a game I didnt like much are to be trusted.
