Carmageddon Devs Bring Online Destruction Derby to XBLA

Futuristic cars, robots and general car-nage

Carmageddon developer, Stainless Software has just released a destruction derby-style online affair on Xbox Live Arcade, called Novadrome – it’s published by Buena Vista Games.

Fans of Carmageddon, and indeed fans of crashing imaginary futuristic cars at speed, will welcome the news. So, for your viewing pleasure, we present a bunch of screens for you to feast your eyes on.

Drivers in the game seem to have been kidnapped by some robots from the planet Nova, where they are forced to take part in futuristic vehicular carnage.

It’s certainly good news that there’s something a little new and different on Live Arcade, and you can check out the free demo right now for a taster of the mayhem. The free trial features two cars, one arena as well as career mode and free play. The full version of Novadrome weights in at 44.06MB and will set you back 800 Marketplace points ($10/ £5).

SPOnG just caught up with Matt Edmunds, COO at Stainless Software who told us all about Novadrome, which he described as “a racing and shooting game, with loads of power-ups which you can play on your own or – for the full experience – online with a bunch of mates.”

“We love it, obviously,” he added. “But when you’ve been playing a game daily for over a year and you still find yourself wanting to play it for pleasure, it says a lot. We think it’s offering something quite new to Live Arcade.”

“The game supports up to eight-players, 20 off-road vehicles, 15 futuristic arenas, loads of weapons, power-ups and some awesome boss encounters,” Edmunds informs us.

Plus there’s the usual leaderboards.and achievements and the like for you to pump up your gamerscore by up to 200 points.
