Prince of Persia Wii-bound Next March

POP: Rival Swords – acrobatics, swordplay and parkour

Ubisoft has just sent over the first details and first batch of screens (pictured here) on the Wii-version of Prince of Persia: Rival Swords which is set to feature Wii Remote/Nunchuck swordplay and acrobatics such as running on walls in that free-ranging, French street ranging ‘parkour’-style.

The game, as with the PSP version, is based on last year's The Two Thrones, this time around the innovative (it says here but we’re yet to see it) use of the Wii’s controllers, as you can see from the pix right here.

Let’s just hope ‘innovative’ also translates into ‘long-term playability’ and not ‘short-term gimmick’, which is the over-riding concern for many publishers as they port untested games over to Wii.

Ubisoft has of course shown early promise for developing on Wii, with both Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids. Both of those titles, while not setting the world alight, are solid launch efforts, offering a good £35’s worth of fun while making decent use of the Wii’s controllers.

Back to Prince of Persia Rival Swords, Ubisoft informs us that the game “creates an epic experience by combining two playable characters in a masterly balanced gameplay, with the perfect mix of combat, platforming, puzzles and a compelling storyline.”

Rival Swords follows other Ubisoft remakes for Wii such as Blazing Angels, Far Cry Vengeance and Splinter Cell Double Agent.
