The Charts: FIFA 07 Hits Back of the Net

Guitar Hero II doesn't get the support, and betting is a bad thing.

As the insanity that is the lead-up to Greedmas gains pace, EA’s FIFA 07 shoots back up to the top of the All Formats chart this week, knocking Microsoft’s Gears of War down to Number 3, with EA’s Need for Speed Carbon stalling at Number 2 – but SPOnG still places it in the running to take the coveted Christmas number 1.

EA has a third title in the top five with The Sims 2: Pets at Number 4, while Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6 moves up one place to Number 5 this week. It seems Brit gamers just cannot get enough of football this season - or any other, actually.

THQ's Christmas stalwart (and bizarre favourite of young teenage boys across the land) WWE Smackdown Vs RAW drops three places down to Number 6 this week, with Activision’s Call of Duty 3 at Number 7, LucasArts’ Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy at Number 8 and THQ’s girly-favourite Bratz: Forever Diamonds at Number 9.

THQ’s movie cash-in, Cars creeps back into the top ten at number 10; and Activision/RedOctane's awesome Guitar Hero II debuts at number 16. This initially seems fairly disappointing, although if the amazing ‘word of mouth’ marketing that happened with the first title is repeated, then this game should sell steadily for some time to come. SPOnG sincerely hopes so, as it’s a blinder and should be on everybody’s Christmas list next month.

In other new entry news, Sega's hugely disappointing Sonic The Hedgehog on Xbox 360, Midway’s peguin-fest Happy Feet, EA's Cricket 07, Deep Silver's Warhammer: Mark of Chaos and Eidos' Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Party Edition (with Buzz! controllers) all failed to make the top forty this week.

It’s a war out there. Only the strongest survive!

†SPOnG does not endorse nor support gambling in any way. You can stake your house on that. (We do, however, quite like gambolling but only in the Spring).
