WiiCade – Homebrew Web Games on Wii

Browser-based Flash games specifically for Wii

WiiCade – Homebrew Web Games on Wii
Seems it’s not all about the Virtual Console if it’s some retro arcade-style action you are after on the Wii. A new website called WiiCade is providing Wii owners with free, browser-based, Flash games to play.

Well, at least it will be doing once Nintendo’s Opera browser for Wii is made available.

SPOnG has contacted Nintendo in the UK this morning for an update on the Opera situation and we should have a confirmed date when that is going to be made available in the very near future.

Back to WiiCade, there are already 22 free vector-based Flash games on offer on this fan-made site (none of which, it should be made clear, is endorsed by Nintendo) all designed to be controlled via the Wii-mote.

If you want to have a quick sneak peak now, the games can be controlled via your PC’s mouse – although SPOnG suspects this is going to be not quite as much fun!

Or you may fancy trying your hand at designing your own Wii game, in which case you can send it over to the site for them to host it for you.

Ah, here they come. The bottom feeders.

Packaging together a load of sub standard Flash games, into a site that is all white and blue, and pretending they are in some way Wii related.

If this supports homebrew games like Torus Trooper, I'm all for it. Give the creative folk out there an outlet.

Flash based games I'm not sure about, but proper 2d shooters and stuff I'd love to see. Hopefully Nintendo will get around to proper arcade games too, like forgotten 2d gems etc.

The funny thing is they could just as easily be played on the PS3 if you plug in a USB mouse or use a bluetooth one.

I wonder if you could play them on the PSP? I may have a try tonight.
