Something for the Weekend, Sir? Games Out Today

War, what is it good for? (Answer: videogames)

What to buy and play this weekend then? Without a doubt the best game newly on the shelf today is Activision’s mindblowingly realistic war game, Call of Duty 3. Pretty much everything else pales into almost insignificance when compared to this giant game.

If you want to know more about Call of Duty 3 you can read SPOnG’s detailed preview of the game right here. You can also get all the necessary information and assets you need from SPOnG’s dedicated Call of Duty 3 page.

Whilst lily-livered liberal critics love to harp on about gamers and the videogame industry at large being unhealthily obsessed with war, what they often fail to mention is that some of the finest games are based on almighty battles, both abstract and realistic – right across the board, from ancient boardgames such as Go and Chess, right through to next generation videogame outings such as Call of Duty 3.

SPOnG challenges anybody to play this game and then try to argue that wargames are either not fun or are somehow “ideological tools to further the hegemony of US imperialist thought throughout the new world order.” Or some such b*ll*cks.

If you really cannot be persuaded to play Call of Duty 3, then there are a couple of other new releases out today that might tickle your gaming fancy. DS Strategy buffs will no doubt want to pick up the new handheld version of Age of Empires: The Age of Kings from THQ. Sports freaks and jocks out there will be competing over the Christmas holidays on Sony’s Buzz! The Sports Quiz.

Finally, if you haven't played the PC version of F.E.A.R. and own a 360, then you are going to need to pick up the newly released 360 version of Vivendi's classy shooter.

Right now though, SPOnG’s going back to battle in Call of Duty 3. Chaaaaaaaaaaaaarge!
