Beloved peripheral manufacturer Hori could release a version of the PlayStation 3 controller that features rumble technology it has emerged. The latest issue of PS2 Famitsu reveals a new hope for those unhappy with the lack of tangible feedback SCE plans for its stock unit.

When asked about the PlayStation 3 and the tempestuous genesis of its controller, a Hori rep simply stated, "We have some ideas [for a rumble-enabled PS3 pad], though we'd need cooperation from the software makers..." This hints that the firm, a highly-regarded outfit of some of the finest licensed controllers ever released, has found a way of bypassing the likely legal threat of the Microsoft part-owned Immersion Tech; a juicier take on said situation can be found here.

As you will have read in SPOnG's recent hands-on with our PlayStation 3 debug, the machine's pad "...divested of its rumble hardware, is strikingly light, and the triggers, although the same size as those of the PS2, now protrude from the controller like fingernails. They have much longer travel, as they’re now analogue. We can confirm that the motion-sensing works, as we tested it with MotorStorm – and swiftly turned it off, as it rendered the game unplayable." Be sure to read the article in full.

As to whether Hori will gain support for its 'ideas' remains to be seen, though the way in which we interact with games has changed, and mainstream developers and publishers are aware that modifications to the norm are welcomed. This is especially true with the DS selling very well and the Wii having gathered huge pre-release momentum. Reverse logic and consumer demand add to the case for adding some rumble features to the PlayStation 3.

An interesting story that we'll take pains to follow-up on in the coming weeks. Keep it locked.

but can developers be arsed to add any rumble effect into the program when 100% of PS3 owners have a non rumbling pad.

I still believe that Sony cut the rumble because of that lawsuit and with everything I've read, all the interviews and test reports.
None of them convince me that I'm wrong about that.
Someone prove me wrong, please!
