SPOnG recently brought you news on the
Xbox 360 Live Vision Camera which was released only last week in the UK.
We’ve been playing UNO and videochatting to mates ever since, although we have to admit to having grown quickly bored with the freely-available gesture-based game Totem Ball. But as it’s free, we can’t really moan so much, it’s little more than a nice little demo to show off what the camera can do, although it’s a killer on the arms after around ten minutes of play!
We will hopefully see some far more developed and properly playable gesture-based 360 games in 2007. The really interesting functionality, for now, is the face-mapping features in grown-up, proper games. You know, games such as Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Vegas.
The publisher’s just sent us a trailer detailing exactly how the Xbox Live Vision Camera can be used in conjunction with Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Vegas, which is out next month.
To see how the XBLV Camera works to superimpose the front and side of your face onto your character in Rainbow Six, click on one of the links right here:
MPEG4 XviD (14.8MB)
Quicktime (14.2MB)
Windows Media (14.3MB)
Once you have picked your bottom jaw off the floor, you will realise why SPOnG is getting excited about the
real possibilities for the XBLV Camera.
Being able to shoot realistic representations of your friends in the face is going to be a hugely enjoyable leap forward in gaming!
More on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Vegas and other games with XBLV Camera functionality as we get it.
