Capcom has announced that it is closing down its Clover Studio, the guys responsible for the Viewtiful Joe series, God Hand and the critically lauded Okami. The studio is scheduled to close at the end of March 2007, once the European versions of Okami and God Hand have been completed.
The company issued a statement today simply saying, “Clover Studio has met the goal of developing unique and creative original home video game software, however, in view of promoting a business strategy that concentrates management resources on a selected business to enhance the efficiency of the development power of the entire Capcom group, the dissolution of Clover Studio has been raised and passed at a Board of Directors' meeting.”
Rumours doing the rounds suggest that the closure was precipitated by Clover Studio personnel planning to leave Capcom and form their own development studio.
