The good people of Codemasters have just sent us the first details and screens on a new Wii title in development called Heatseeker. You can see the screens here.
Yes, you are correct, it does look like After Burner. No bad thing. The game, being jointly developed by Codies and Aussie dev studio IR Gurus (who brought us Heroes of the Pacific) will also be out on PSP and PS2 in early 2007, but it's the announcement of a Wii version which caused SPOnG's 'bothered' radar to start flashing.
"If you like fast and furious action, and blowing everything in sight to bits, then Heatseeker is a dream come true. Expect the greatest military aircraft armed to the teeth with the latest hardware, big explosions, great smoke trails, and gung-ho heroics", gushed senior producer Andrew Wensley.
The game is described as an "incredible lock-on/shake-off experience...[featuring] an incredible collection of current and near-future military fighter jets...[including] the stealthy F-22™ Raptor™, the classic F-15 Eagle, the cutting-edge F35® Lightening II®, and the aerodynamically advanced Russian SU-47 Berkut."
Ben Palmer, exec producer at Gurus, said of the game's engine, "The Heroes air combat engine is being advanced and getting armed to the teeth with the latest military hardware. It's set in a realistic now-time world, that's cohesive and believable, but the speed of play will feel like lightening".
The game will also feature a special "Impact Cam", so you can watch missiles along their trajectory, revealing "the results of your attack in all their devastating glory from all kinds of dynamic angles, complete with jaw-dropping explosions and smoke trails."
Few details as yet on Wii-mote specific control options, but rest assured we will be bugging Codemaster's PR department to tell us more on this as soon as.
