The Charts: FIFA 07 Shoots and Scores

Back of the net for lucky number 07.

It’s all about the lucky number seven for Electronic Arts this week with the publisher’s FIFA 07 shooting straight to the top of the ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 this week, the game released across seven formats (PS2/XB/PSP/PC/GBA/DS/GC) and being the seventh all-time fastest selling All Formats game ever. The multi-million pound marketing and PR campaign and severe price cutting at retail also helped along the way, SPOnG suspects.

So the post-summer lull is most definitely over this week, with overall game software sales being at their highest levels since back at Easter, as the UK’s game industry hunkers down for three month’s of ‘Q4 craziness’ in the run-up to Christmas.

The force is weakening for LucasArts' Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, which drops from last week's number one down to number four this week, with Eidos Interactive's Just Cause holding onto the number two slot and EA's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 still clinging onto number three.

Square-Enix claim the next highest new entry after FIFA with Kingdom Hearts II straight in at number five, outselling the original title by some margin. At number six is Codemasters’ LMA Manager 2007, dropping two places from last week. THQ’s Company of Heroes is the third highest new entry at number seven, with the publisher's former chart-topping Cars close behind at number eight. Top ten stalwarts EA’s The Godfather and Nintendo’s Brain Training continue to sell healthily, hanging in at numbers nine and ten respectively.

Elsewhere, outside of the top ten, Microsoft’s new Xbox 360 bundle helps drive Project Gotham Racing 3 up from 26 to 11 this week.
