SPOnG was severely tempted to spend all of our hands-on time at X06 playing Pro Evolution Soccer 6. We have to admit that we did play a couple of quick games, but then unfortunately had the dull business of meeting people and conducting interviews to attend to. It’s a hard life.
What we concluded from the few games we did get on PES 6 is hardly earth-shattering news, but here it is anyway. PES 6 is loads better than PES5, which was formerly the best ever football videogame. The improvements aren’t immediately noticeable, but after a couple of goes you notice the subtle differences. The AI just seems to be that bit better, with players making and running into space in such ways that they never did before. Plus, in full high def glory it just looks beautiful.
Simply put, it is an essential purchase for footy fans and, Konami has just announced, that the PS2, Xbox 360 and PC versions will be in stores from 27th October, so just four short weeks to wait. The real football season starts next month
PES6 will also feature several new licensed clubs including Manchester United, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and Olympiacos, plus a load of new licensed kits for national squads are also in the mix – including those for the Czech, French, Australian, English, Italian, Argentinian, Spanish and Swedish national sides.
"This is the date all football fans have been waiting for," said Martin Schneider, European Marketing and PR Director for Konami. "October 27 will see established Pro Evolution Soccer fans looking to get their hands on the latest version, while we are delighted to be bringing the first Next Generation version to Xbox 360 users. The season truly starts here.”
SPOnG would advise PES fans to spend some quality time with their partners over the next month, as there are going to be lots of PES widows (and maybe a few widowers) across the land come November.
Whilst the game is a next-gen home console 360 exclusive for at least its first year, the handheld PSP and DS versions will follow ‘shortly after’ – so hopefully sometime in November. We’ll let you know about that as soon as we find out.
