When we were watching Tim Henman get slaughtered at Wii Sports Tennis at the European Wii launch last Friday, we have to admit that we to thinking about tennis games. Specifically, we were wondering what the latest is with our most anticipated tennis title, which is clearly, Virtua Tennis 3 on PlayStation 3.
Wii Sports Tennis is all well and good, and SPOnG imagines we will be playing it extensively with both the very young and the dodderingly old members of our family come Christmas. However, if it's a beautiful, realistic simulation of the game of kings that you are after, then Sega's Virtua Tennis series really is the only sensible option available to gamers in the longer term.
So it's great to hear that Sega has confirmed that Virtua Tennis 3 for PlayStation 3 will run in glorious 1080p (so-called 'full' High Definition for the console). The only other title confirmed in full HD to date is Gran Turismo HD.
Sony, of course, is really pushing the fact that the PS3 is the only next gen machine that can render 1080p images. The matter of how many gamers are actually likely to own HD tellies to effectively make use of the technology and more importantly, when they will do so, is surely going to be one of the long-term deciding factors in who 'wins' the next gen war.
According to recent reports on GamePro recently, a Sony spokesperson has said that another PS3 titles which should be available in full HD is Resistance: Fall of Man: "Right now the game is at 720p and we are aiming to have it reach 1080p by the time the game is wrapped," the spokesperson told them.
