'Late and Costly' Wii Rumoured to be in Response to PS3 Delay
So, what's the gossip at the Nintendo Wii European launch event in London today? Well, according to one source close to the decision-making core of Nintendo Europe, the recently reported date and price information from UK trade magazine MCV - £149 (around 220 Euro) in November - was accurate at the time.

Since then, the decision has been made to increase the price to 250 Euro, and launch slightly later than planned. The ballsy move is, SPOnG speculates, almost certainly in reaction to last week's earth-shattering news of the European delay to PlayStation 3, which is not launching until March.

We just tried to collar Nintendo's PR reps out here at ExCel but it seems they've all gone to the pub for a much-deserved pint, so we'll be putting this assertion to Nintendo execs first thing on Monday morning - not that they'll ever admit it (on the record) - but we'll certainly enjoy seeing how they wriggle out of it.

I could have told you the moment Sony's price was announced, and definitely the moment the delay was a fact.

So far for "not in competition"

But the Wii isn't even meant to be competing with the PS3 - the PS3 shouldn't affect it. Plus, if they're both more expensive than expected, fewer people will buy both (or either).

I'm sure you must know someone that has to travel to the mainland (Europe) a couple of times for work or something. Have them buy you a Wii there. At least it's 10 £ cheaper there. In terms of price, it's like this

UK>>EU>>>AUS>>>US>>>>>Japan

And no, i don't think they'll lower the price when the PS3 launches, they won't have to any more. They'll be having the advantage anyway (cheaper and early userbase)... If the PS3 would have launched for 350 and 500 $/€, i'd bet my house on Wii not costing more than 200 $/€
