Charts Rundown: Cars Still in First Place

And DS makes strong showing.

Posted by Staff
It's a little later than usual, thanks to the Bank Holiday, but it's 'charts news day', and the traditional summer lull sees Pixar's latest CGI extravaganza Cars screaming round the banked curves of British retail in first place for yet another week at the top of the All Formats listings as rendered by ChartTrack.

There's no change either in second place, with the excellent New Super Mario Brothers flying the DS flag. Animal Crossing Wild World increases the presence of the revamped handheld in the chart's upper reaches, as it sits at number four for the second week. That slightly cringe-inducing female-targeted ad campaign must be working, then.

Everybody's favourite industry megalith EA is not as dominant as it might like, with a solitary title in the top ten, with The Sims 2 becoming part of the furniture at three. Lavish 360 adventure Ninety-Nine Nights slam dunks straight in at five, impressive for a game costing nearly twice the price of any other in the full price top ten.

Movie franchises dominate the lower half of the top ten: Pirates of the Caribbean, Over the Hedge and Monster House continuing to loiter as Eidos Interactive's new Revervoir Dogs walks calmly in and asks for the money at number seven, despite problems with Xbox discs prompting a recall. Lapping happily in eighth is Sony's Formula 1 '06. Here's that Top Ten, Full Price rundown for your perusal:

1 Cars
2 New Super Mario Bros.
3 The Sims 2
4 Animal Crossing: Wild World
5 Ninety-Nine Nights
6 Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow
7 Reservoir Dogs
8 Formula 1 06
9 Over the Hedge
10 Monster House

Top selling budget priced games in all formats this month are GTA: Liberty City Stories, Pro Evolution Soccer 5, Brain Training, Star Wars: Battlefront II and Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
