Wii Deliberately Shown as Underpowered?
The endless Wii rumour mill continues to grind apace, with the latest gossip around the emerging home platform claiming Nintendo has, to date, shown only games that mask its true graphical potential.

The reason Nintendo did this? According to the French source citing 'secret Nintendo leakers', Nintendo wants to surprise everyone. That's right. The latest Nintendo rumour is that the final press showing of the Wii will see massively uprated graphics across the Wii range.

"Nintendo has been playing us the fool all along. They have been showing us trailers for games that have deliberately downgraded graphics compared to what the Wii can actually do. This is to create an element of surprise for the press during Nintendo's next media event," claims the Actu JV section of Jeux France.

Of course, this is an auto-fulfilling prophecy. It's not as though Wii software with almost six months' additional development time is going to look any worse than it did during its E3 debut...

Well, if you were French, you would know that this "ActuJV" section of Jeux-France is a blog thingy which is directed by oblivious and imaginative fan boys and is absolutely not reliable.

100% convinced we have seen only a fraction of what Wii can do... a lot of GCN and Xbox titles looked better than what we've seen so far, so no surprises there.

Devs have been playing around with the controller rather than sqeezing the last drop out of CPU and GPU, and most only just got final devkits... no surprises here either.

But to say they did this on purpose? Time for a good old fashioned "ROFL".

I agree. Some of the stuff we'll see will be amazing. I like the idea of using old hardware so much. It'll be the first time we'll get to see a what current-gen console can keep doing over a long period of time.

Still, doesn't Mario Galaxy look *really* good. If every Wii game had that sheen to it, I'd never complain.

Yeah, SMG looked great, so did Pokémon, by the way. If that's what the graphics can look like, i'm set.

Any see the Sonic Wii videos on IGN? Looks alright. But whoever was playing it was playing it like a sap. Really frustrating to watch.

Shown underpowered?
That's just stupid.
I know I've heard the "it doesn't matter what the graphics look like it's the gameplay that's important" argument a million times.
but nah. that's just stupid.

I've seen nothing on Wii yet that looks like something the Gamecube couldn't do but Mario Galaxy does look nice.
Wii is supposed to be some sort of GCplus in terms of power but all of what I've seen looks like they've just made simple graphics. Chosen to keep it simple rather than holding back on the hardware front.
I thinnk that'd just be stupid.
