Yet again, and disappointingly enough, we have been told very little of genuine interest at the Microsoft press conference which has just wrapped up in Leipzig, other than the interesting news that both Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and EA’s FIFA 07 will both be exclusive to Xbox 360 for the first twelve months after their respective releases later this year.
So neither of these two top-selling football videogames will release on PS3 or Wii until at least late 2007, which is quite a PR coup for Microsoft, SPOnG’s sure you will agree. Not to mention a bit of unfortunate egg on Sony’s face at a crucial time for the company as it prepares to start unveiling its PS3 PR and marketing campaign in the coming months, leading up the November 17 release.
SPOnG is sure that Konami will be unveiling a PS3 version of its beautiful Pro Evo series later in 2007, and is most likely just biding its time to ensure that they deliver the best game they can, which would have been almost impossible to do on PS3 this year, due to tight development scheduling following the fairly late delivery of Sony’s dev kits.
However, even though this is the most likely reason for the short-term ‘exclusive’ being given to Microsoft, the fact that fans of Pro Evo or FIFA will only be able to get their next-gen fix on a 360 until late next year can only be golden news to MS.
SPOnG will be sure to bring you news on the new 360 version of Pro Evo as soon as we get our sweaty mitts on it in the coming months. Oh, and just to be balanced, we’ll bring you FIFA news as well, otherwise EA might get all upset with us again.
In other Microsoft news from Leipzig, the company unveiled several new peripherals: the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0, Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows and the Habu Mouse. The only announcement of any interest being the fact that the superb wireless 360 controller is set to work with both Windows XP-based PCs and the Xbox 360 system to “...deliver a consistent entertainment experience across Microsoft’s gaming platforms.”
