Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced a new price point for its mega-successful PlayStation 2. The console's new asking price is now £94.99 (€129.99) and the price of an 8MB Memory Card also falls to €19.99, which'll probably round up to £14.99 for us British types. SCEE has timed this well, we reckon, with these pre-pre-Xmas weeks and months revealing a strong line-up of soon-come PS2 software, including SingStar Legends, EyeToy; Kinetic Combat, Buzz! Junior: Jungle Party and Buzz! The Sports Quiz. Canny, eh? If there's a household left in Europe without a PS2, now's the time to buy. Money off…all those games to choose from…'scuse us, we'll be off to the shops, but not until we've heard from David Reeves, president of SCEE, needlessly justying the cut in price:
"With this attractive new price point and a vast portfolio of over 2,200 software titles including social gaming blockbusters such as EyeToy, SingStar and Buzz!, we believe there has never been a better time to join the community of PlayStation 2 users. At this new price point of €129, the market leading PlayStation 2 should remain the computer entertainment system of choice for an even wider and more diverse audience for many years to come."
Hmm, 'Wii' wonder if Nintendo might have something to say about that 'years to come' remark.
