PSP Goes Pink Too
SCEE revealed this afternoon that a pink PSP will make its debut on October 27, in a bundle comprising the console, a 32MB Memory Stick Duo, white headphones with remote control, a carry pouch and wrist-strap. In something of a marketing coup, there'll also be a UMD from American popstrel Pink included, featuring interviews, live performances and all the usual Pink-related promo gubbins. The whole kit and caboodle will go on sale for £169.

"The Pink PSP launch is much more than just launching a new colour," said Stephane Hareau, PSP senior brand manager at SCEE. "It is about a confident and powerful attitude for young women. The association with Pink will enable PSP to push new boundaries."

Are you a young woman? Do you like Pink? (Can you re-phrase that please - Ed). Are you a fan of her work, and will she tempt you away from the flip-top handheld wondrousness that is Nintendo DS? Get thee to the forum and tell us.

PSP hardware and software hits males ages 16-30 demographic.
Candy pink is more like girls age 7-12.

So to conclude… without Nintendogs / Big Brains / Princess Peach / Animal Crossing this is half-baked to say the least. You can't polish a turd.

Oh, and interviews with 'Pink' the pop star. Surely that will diswade if anything?

I want to agree with you. But knowing the number of girls in the SPOnG office that will buy anything if you paint it pink, I think you may be overestimating women or underestimating pink power marketing.

Of course getting girls into gaming takes the software they want to play - but PSP has to the SIMs and my mates daughters are crazy for that game.

I would say, "you can kick'em for trying". But you already did ;-)

Look at it this way, PS2 is last gen now, and as we all know last gen becomes the homes of cheap ports of movie tie ins and barbie/mariekate games. Oh and spongbob or whatevere the hot new cartoon is. So making the cheap slim little cute ps2 pink to apeal even more to the sub10 girls is a great idea and couldnt have come at a better time. now that "harcore" gamers are moving on to ps3,360,wii the youth of america can go out and get a cheap console in one of many tantalizeing colors. Sony is always on about there 10year+ console life spans. This is just th enext logical step.

Yeah… but for £160 you could buy the entire back catalogue of 'Will and Grace' and still have change for Barcadi Breezer.

Now that's stereotyping. Still, I don't think your average female teenibopper is gonna get M+D to fork out that kind of cash just to play Spongebob and the [quite adult actually] Sims.

Stick a Barbie UMD in there and you have something unique. Don't expect Sony paid the film studio's enough cash in the whole HD battle thingy. Damn, I just can't stop stereotyping people. But isn't that what a pink PSP is all about?

Yeah. I didn't say I had turned gay, just that I was turning gay. I like the colour pink too much - I would buy one, but the stereotyping is one thing that puts me off.

Pink PSP is a bit of an oxymoron, though, but who knows what will happen - they must have some idea what they're doing.

I'd like to say this is a brilliant move, but it really isn't. Ninty can push the DS in as many colours as they wish. Why? Because they have the software to back a very large demograph of people.

You can't push the PSP as this insane multi-media device that can make you breakfast, slap it with a pink case and say, "Bam, it's all good for females now."

I might be breaking some moral rules by saying this, but in my experience males seem to be more technologically inclined that females. MOST OF THE TIME, not always. I've seen a fair amount of PSP owners who don't even know how to change the clock.

I had another really slick arguement, but it's slipped my mind... Give me a while...

So the theory goes, paint it bright pink & all girls will want it!..... ummm, now there's a thought.

I can imagine that you would get a lot of female attention if you went out on a Friday in an all pink suit. Like a pink DJ or zoot suit or something.
