Comic geeks wet dream. Right here.

We told you yesterday of our love for comics. Specifically our love for the darker and more extreme tendencies in contemporary comic culture.

However, let’s not forget the driving commercial and cultural forces of this world. And with this in mind, we bring you news on the latest trailer on Activision’s forthcoming Marvel Ultimate Alliance, which will be on show at this weekend's Comic-Con in San Diego.

And whilst many hardcore comic-freaks might well dismiss Marvel as being old-hat, SPOnG cannot help but be wowed by this.

See, from Activision’s press release, what we are talking about; “Experience the full scale of the Marvel universe with a combined cast of over 140 popular comic book characters. Players create, customize and control their ultimate four-person strike team, selecting from an initial roster of 20 playable Super Heroes, including Spider-Man, Wolverine, The Thing, Captain America, Elektra and Thor – and battle notorious Super Villains including Dr. Doom, Galactus and countless others.”

So basically if you like comics, you are going to want to check this latest, wonderfully high-def trailer, right here:

MPEG4 XviD (54.9MB)
Windows Media (56.5MB)

See SPOnG’s dedicated Marvel Ultimate Alliance page for all the latest info and assets on the game.

It's a cool idea, but it's just X-Men Legends again. All they did was expand the hero base.

Don't get me wrong, I liked X-Men Legends, but the idea got a bit boring with Legends II. I'm not sure I want to go through it again only this time replacing Colossus with the Thing and Cyclops with Captain America.

There's even a DC version called "Justice League Heroes" coming. (OK, so it's not the same quantity of characters, but you get the idea.)
