Whilst the Internet is beside itself with gossip and rumour regarding Nintendo and the launch of its new generation console, Wii (Calm down, dear! You’ll have a Wii by Christmas) the first believable reports are now emerging, suggesting that the date could even be as early as late September.
CNN Money’s Chris Morris reports that the system is to be available in October, “...with late September a dark horse candidate.”
PJ McNealy of American Technology Research noted back on June 21 that Nintendo was already manufacturing final Wii retail units. "October is a reasonable timeframe," McNealy said.
The CNN report is largely based on industry insiders who wished to remain anonymous, which - were this your average fanboy blog - SPOnG would have dismissed off-handedly. But as it’s CNN Money, the report has to be taken more seriously.
So it looks like there is a good chance that there will be a plentiful supply of affordable Wii’s on the shelves a good month before there is a very limited supply of expensive PlayStation 3’s on the shelves. In the US at least.
If past console launches are anything to go buy UK gamers can expect to be snapping up their Wii (Heh! Still funny – Ed) sometime around Christmas. Christmas 2007.
