Codemasters is doing a sterling job right now of dusting off old favourites and giving them a fresh lick of current gen paint. Following hot on the heels of the recently released Sensible Soccer 2006 comes the latest version in the much loved Micro Machines series.

The PS2, PC and PSP versions of Micro Machines V4 will be in stores on the 30th June, with a DS version to follow closely behind. In the meantime you can check out these latest screens as well as new video footage right here on SPOnG to see what’s in store in the next instalment of one of our favourite multiplayer racing game series of all time.

MPEG4 XviD (9.4MB)
Windows Media (8.6MB)

The well known gamer’s phrase ‘just one more go’ is what springs to mind when we remember monster Micro Machine’s sessions from times past. Along with the marvellous Pro Evolution Soccer, this is one of those games we just know is going to involve some all-night sessions this summer.

Whilst there have been some worthwhile pretenders to the Micro Machines crown (one thinks of Supersonic’s Circuit Breakers on PS1, and more recently Mashed on PS2) there really is nothing to equal the joy of steering a mini car around an oversized dinner table, making sure to avoid the egg cup whilst knocking your mates off the edge or blowing them up with your rocket launcher - accompanying evil cackle obligatory. Bwahaha!

Indeed, as Codemaster’s press release informs us, we could even go so far as to agree that Micro Machines is “the reason friends were invented.” Get practising your trash talking now.
