Sega to release middleware for PlayStation 2
In addition to releasing software for the PlayStation 2 Sega will also release development software to help other companies make games. These development programs are called Ninja and Shinobi and they will make it easy to develop great looking games on Sony’s platform. This is an unselfish move by Sega and will help the list of quality PS2 titles grow substantially.

Ninja and Shinobi were originally designed as an alternative to the WinCE development tools and are powerful pieces of software. It will mean that third-party developers will be able to convert their Dreamcast software to PS2 with ease.

The PlayStation 2 is notoriously difficult to program for and these tools should help alleviate this situation. The PS2 will be an attractive platform with the addition of hundreds of Dreamcast titles.
