It is more than likely that England will follow suit with price reductions for Sega’s 128-bit console. As of February 4th in the states the Dreamcast will be lowered in price from $150 to just $100. England’s pricing structure usually mirrors the American model but replace the $ with £’s. No official confirmation has been made about European sales but Sega wants to sell all available Dreamcasts that are currently in stock. Retailer incentives could well persuade gamers to snap up one the remaining consoles.
Sega has stated that it will support the hardware side of its business until the end of the year but it will cease manufacturing the Dreamcast as of March 31st, 2001. Don’t think for a second that we won’t see any new original, quality titles show up in the next year or so. Sega has 30 titles in development and it is expected that there will be over a hundred games released in the next year. With titles like Shenmue 2, Crazy Taxi 2 and OutTrigger to look forward to, the not so distant future is still looking bright for Sega. And at £100 the Dreamcast would be a bargain.
