Summary

Tony Hawk returns to the PC in fine style with Pro Skater 2. Tony Hawk is a skateboarding god and the first person to ever successfully pull off a 900. In Tony Hawk 2 you can choose from 13 professional skateboarders. Aside from Tony, there is Rodney Mullen, Geoff Rowley, Steve Caballero and many others.

Each skater can have up to five special moves and by building up your special meter you can execute these awesome tricks. If you can put these specials into your combinations of moves your points will skyrocket. Combinations are what makes Tony Hawk 2 fantastic, you can link moves together one after the other in a chain. You can now nose wheelie or manual roll when you hit the ground, this counts as a trick and allows you to join up different parts of the landscape. Your imagination is the only limitation to what you can do in this game. The environments are a lot better designed than the first game and are well thought out. Graphically the PC version is the best of the bunch and the soundtrack comes highly recommended.

One of the best aspects of Tony Hawk 2 is how customisable it is. No longer do you have to pick a pro to skate as, you can create your own skater from scratch. You get to choose everything from clothing, appearance, stance and most importantly the tricks that you have available.

As you make your way through the game, you will earn cash for completing ten different tasks on each level. These tasks vary, and include: achieving certain point scores and finding hidden objects or performing tricks on specific parts of the level. The cash that you earn can be used to increase the stats of your skater, buy new moves and specials, and purchase new decks. Most importantly cash allows you to make it to the next level and consequently earns you invites to enter competitions. To complete the game you must win three gold medals in the competitions. When you win you are treated to a high quality video of your skater in action, an incentive to complete the game with each character.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is an all round excellent game. It has solid gameplay that is far too addictive for its own good. Multiple play modes that include several 2-player network games. Tony Hawk 2 also includes a skate park editor where you can build your own dream levels or modify existing levels.
