Summary

Anno 1701 is a PC game set in the 16th and 17th centuries, the age of seafaring and exploration. You assume the role of a discoverer, exploring new continents and foreign cultures. Diplomatic finesse, business acumen and strategic skills are all important traits to be a success, but remember not to upset your people, because that's when your troubles may begin.

Players must create their own realistic world, where interaction takes place at every possible turn. Anno 1701 offers maximum interaction with the gaming environment through many details, including the cheers or protests of the population in the village centre, animated portraits with audio, and the ability to engage in diplomacy with foreign settlements. Get ready to take part in secret diplomacy, involving special operations, such as espionage and sabotage that will in turn open up a selection of strategic options to help gamers proceed.

Anno 1701's graphics are extremely detailed and lifelike. The game shows unprecedented effects, realism and even natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes and volcano eruptions. There are more than 100 sub-quests integrated dynamically into the game, which players can choose to accept or not. If gamers accept a sub-quest, and complete it successfully, they will be rewarded with upgrades.

There is a unique Information Mode (tutorial) that uses a clearly structured interface which is undoubtedly an ideal point of entry to the game for newcomers to the genre. There is also a multiplayer mode that supports up to four players over LAN. Co-operative play is another feature of the multiplayer mode.
