Summary

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is, it's fair to say, one of the most highly-anticipated multiplayer, first-person shooters ever made. It's the follow up to Britsoft developer Splash Damage's Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and is set in the same bio-mech augmented cyberpunk future as Quake II and Quake 4.

After Quake III Arena, Enemy Territories Quake Wars is the second multiplayer-only game in the Quake series, building on the gameplay of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory but featuring loads more vehicles, bigger maps and lots more.

It serves as a prequel to id Software's now legendary Quake II, and drops players into the year 2065, where they will play as either the Allied troupes of the Global Defence Force or a new Axis of Evil, the Strogg, in all their technologically advanced and brutal glory. That's right, it's World War II with aliens.

Splash Damage has taken great pains to ensure that Enemy Territories is not your bog standard, same-characters-with-different-skins shooter. Choices of side, weapons and vehicles will dramatically effect how the game is played. And that's before you even take into account character classes.

On the side of the GDF, you'll find a choice between Soldier, Field Ops, Engineer, Covert Ops and Medic. For the Strogg, you'll have a choice between Aggressor, Opressor, Constructor, Infiltrator, and Technician. From there, it's a question of choosing your weapons carefully, co-ordinating your efforts and setting out to blow the snot out of each other on a meticulously realised landscape.
