Summary

The legendary Arthur returns.

If you haven't recently dusted off your SNES then, like us, you'll have missed the little guy. It's been over 10 years since Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts first made an appearance on Nintendo's 16-bit machine. But now Capcom have brought Arthur and his seemingly impossible quest to rescue his beloved Princess Prin Prin to the Game Boy Advance.

As far as the plot is concerned, it's business as usual. A spell has been cast upon the kingdom, the evil emperor has snatched our gallant hero's fair maiden and only he can rescue her from the creatures of the undead that haunt the land. Not the most intricate of plots, but who cares?

The game itself is a perfect conversion of the classic tale, with every minute detail of the SNES original crammed onto the little GBA cart plus a whole lot more. It looks great too.

Original mode allows you to relive the original, battling across the haunting landscapes, leaping over gravestones and coffins, and generally throwing anything you can get your hands on at everything that moves. All the weaponry is there; lance, dagger, axe, crossbow, scythe, and fireball (exploding cabbages, more like!), and all the different armours can be collected: essential protection as Arthur fights the hordes of zombies, wolves and other ghastly creatures.

New to the GBA version is Arrange mode. This allows you to select the next stage of the game at the end of each level, thus adding a fair amount of replay value to the game and allowing those of you who have mastered the original to play all the new stages. It also gives immediate access to later levels to those of you not so successful, which is a good thing, as this game is far from easy.

That about sums it up. This is, after all, Ghouls 'N Ghosts - it needs no introduction, nor does it need any more praise. If you own a Game Boy Advance then you should already know that you have to buy it.
