Summary

It's been 15 years since Maverick and Goose ripped up the skies on the silver screen in their slivery, silvery aircraft. Titus and Virgin Interactive are taking to the skies again, having snapped up the official license for the Top Gun movie, and have produced the definitive air combat game.

Engaging in combat situations from classic locations from the film, you can master six different modes of play set in three different military eras, from the 1970's up to modern day warfare. The pilot with the quickest reflexes and nerves of steel will be the one to win the Top Gun accolade. Hesitate for a second and you'll crash and burn.

Playing as either Maverick, Viper, Jester or Iceman, thirty in-depth missions give up and coming virtual pilots the chance fly fighter planes such as the F-14, F-18 and F-22. It's not to be sneezed at, and you get to race them across locations such as South East Asia, the Gulf States, Mirimar Base and breezy Northern Russia.

Combat Zones' challenges are varied, and using a well thought out control method, players will be responsible for missions involving Fly targets, time restrictions, pursuits, missiles and chases. Most of the levels have clear objectives, and offer a degree of guidance to keep players on the right track.

Combat Zones' game design is admirable. It ensures that players of any skill level are capable of learning the ins and outs of combat flight and maintains well-paced, balanced gameplay. It might just take your breath away.
