As we have recently reported, SquareSoft has licensed the film rights to the massive Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy Within is due to premier this summer and some interesting tit-bits of information have surfaced, the most surprising of which is that the sequel to the as yet unscreened film has gone into production. No details were forthcoming at the recent press conference, at which the second disclosure was made.
Said Jun Aida, the film’s producer "... with the PS2 being DVD compatible, we are working on a very interactive product. Namely, you will be able to render certain sequences of the movie in real time, and be your own director, and change camera angles and shots. That's the enhanced interactive capability that our research and development team is producing currently. Hopefully that will go on the PS2 version of the DVD." Said Jun Aida, the film’s producer.
This must surely be a revelation to Final Fantasy fans. Dedicated DVD interactive movies that are actually worth playing/watching have been an industry Holy Grail for years. Perhaps this will be the first title to break free from the gimmick movie/poor game drudgery.
