Microsoft unveils final design of the Xbox live on the Internet

It was a proud day for Microsoft last Saturday as they finally unveiled the design of the Xbox.

It seems that Electronic Gaming Monthly was right about the design when they released pictures ahead of the scheduled launch. Opinions around the world are still being made up on whether it is good or not. Regardless of its appearance, at the time of release, the Xbox will be the most powerful games console available.

The unveiling went well with the shroud of secrecy being lifted by Bill Gates himself. World Wrestling Federation superstar, The Rock was also on hand to demonstrate the link between being cool and playing video games. It was interesting to see the official design of the console and the controller after months of speculation and rumours. The truth is finally with us.

Up until last weekend we have only been shown some technical demos of what the Xbox is going to be capable of. The Consumer Electronic Show was the ideal stage for showing footage of actual games running on the platform. There were two games shown running on Xbox development kits, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, and Malice.

Although what we saw running was only utilising about one fifth of the final power of the Xbox, the games looked absolutely amazing. The level of detail present just hasn’t been seen before. Munch’s Oddysee featured stunning graphics and vast, beautiful environments. It was also announced that Activision are bringing their Tony Hawk series of games to the Xbox.

Bill Gates was eager to point out that the Xbox would come with a built in eight gigabyte hard drive and be broadband ready with a built-in 100 MB Ethernet connection. Bill referred to the design as “sleek”, which might be wishful thinking for a design that appears to be larger than a pile of housebricks. He also pointed out that the controllers would have rumble functionality. The specifications of the Xbox may have changed slightly but that does not interfere with Microsoft’s plans to have three times the power of today’s consoles. More Xbox information as it comes in.
