In what SPOnG believes is a first, gamers in Japan are right now queuing overnight to place pre-orders for the new Sony PSP handheld.
No doubt triggered by the information trickle foretelling miniscule day one availability, placed at below 130,000 units in some reports, people are willing to brave the cold to sign up for a launch console: a truly impressive illustration of demand outstripping supply.
To date, SCEJ has released no information detailing availability of the loss-leading console, though in order to post a decent set of financials this year, limited PSP stocking would be wise. If Sony were to offer enough units to meet demand, the resulting shareholder storm would be somewhat perturbing, to say the least.
